What is your prototypical posture of a dragonfly? I hadin mind a dragonfly settling on the tip of a rod or astick,and, in my images,l was looking at it from the side.So,I designed "that" dragonfly.
Scopes and angles will change the output model to bedesigned. When l designed this model,l did not know ofa model of a "side-view dragonfly,so it was truly fun forme to do trials and errors designing this model with theoptimal shape in mind. Also,I wanted to express legs withdifferent lengths and real-life distribution of the four wings.all of which I incorporated in this model. This modelunderwent trials and errors the most number of times ever,but at the same time this model is the one that l am mostsatisfied with.
This dragonfly is peculiar structurally as well.This isbased on pleats with different widths, but 1 also succeededin folding out flaps for wings using the"Kamiya pattern".structures with 3:4:5 right triangles. In earlier versions ofthe model, the structure was simpler, but,as l tried toreduce the number of pleats to the extreme, the "Kamiyapattern" got overlapped with each other in complex ways.making the final model more complex to fold.
Although the number of steps is less than 200,thismodel is the most difficult and intriguing one. Enjoy folding。
